Dj John M
I have been spinning for more than a decade in the nightclub world. Currently, i hold a resident dj position at Phoenix nightclub in Birmingham, al. I also am looking to get into the lineup one night at another local club and play my set for an entirely different crowd. I can play housey and NRGetic, but i can also play funky and deliver a breakbeat, funky house uk2step, garage set that will is sure to empty barstools quickly. Im not one to maintain purity in what music genres i spend. My sets can range from funky to smooth, with eurodisco from the 70s, electro, funk, new wave, house, euroNrg,and top 40 remixes from the 80s, with full extended versions so you can dance much longer to your favorites. The 90s shifted my tastes to almost exclusively electronica/dance unlike in the years before when the majority of the music i played were extended versions of Pop and R&b hits. I had my introduction to hardcore around 1991-92 and went hogwild for the next three years over it. So i have many of those records in my library .The next phase was without a doubt the progressive house phase and thats where i stayed almost exclusively for the remainder of the decade. I have that in my library too.  1999 started a change for me back toward accepting club mixes of hot pop and r&b hits once again into my playlist. I currently try to include everything i can into a set depending on the crowd im playing to. I will generally try to do a set each of different styles or do a set based on time period, such as an 80s set, a prog house set, a garage set, and so forth. Im always thinking of  new  ideas on how to make a set better. I have a good ability to blend and beatmix tracks to maximum effect, overlaying two tracks smoothly from anywhere from a quick mix to an extended overlay of two songs for more than a minute. Im a bit arrogant in that i dont rely on ProTools when im recording myself mixing. The sound on my cds as well as playing live is  of someone who has logged considerable time behind the decks. Im available to do shows at other venues or events feel free to email me as i'd really like to play for another audience in another city or even cross-town. I go to great lengths to spin only the best club songs from the past 3 decades with many remixes both well known as well as more obscure dj mixes not released to the general public. SPecialties include 80s themes with every kind of fun uptempo song from that decade all with the best extended versions, as well as multiple styles of Electronica including Progressive, CHicago, Deep, Acid, Tribal, and Electro House, and 80s remakes. I keep up with the Billboard Club play/dance chart weekly to stay up to date with the hottest, in addition to keeping an eye out in the import 12 inch singles bins at good record stores. That scenario is becoming less often due to downloading most of my tracks as its more cost affective than vinyl. CHeck out Beatport.com and Playittonight.com for some hot electronica/dance oriented tunes. Services like Rhapsody do have some dance mixes of hot pop and dance chart hits whereas Beatport or Playittonight concentrate on non pop oriented dance music. Allow me to spin for your audience and you'll see for yourself my talents. Email me today.
