| The site works well with Internet Explorer, passably with Netscape and Firefox. However, modern in-page ad blockers and/or dialup accelerators are likely to obliterate selected graphical elements even though they may not be advertising. So browsers that give unsatisfactory results with the full-graphics pages may work better with printer-friendly (aka no-frills) versions. Click just above to choose these. |

| ____________________________________________________________ BIG CHANGES PERSONALLY Late in the summer of 2005, I became aware that the collection of herbs, supplements, and vitamins described elsewhere on this site could no longer produce the desired results for me. While I was not exactly overjoyed to discover excessive blood glucose and poor control after years and years of near perfection, I can't claim to be surprised. Anyone who reads the original Origins & Purpose statement for this site will see I was well aware of what the future could bring: "Since diabetes does tend to grow more difficult over time, I know it's very possible there would come a day when allopathic drugs are necessary for me. Given the nature of some of the side effects from even the most up-to-date prescriptions, my personal goal is to delay their use as long as possible." So I did reach that day; now my doctor and I are figuring out the optimal doses of some prescription drugs. So far I've progressed moderately well, without any serious immediate side effects. And we're not finished adjusting. I don't intend to alter the site so that it will now chronicle my experiences with well-known pharmaceuticals. But let me state this: aside from test results that indicated poor glucose control and, notably, high insulin resistance that we've already reversed, my condition still looks pretty good for my age - without evidence of the skin, nerve, or circulatory problems common to diabetics. I'm pretty sure the antioxidants, vitamins, and so forth have helped, and I'll continue all of them except (1) cinnamon, which had been my main insulin resistance lowering agent; and (2) a few other herbs that are known to conflict with the prescriptions. Aside from the now-ineffective-for-me cinnamon, I had to discontinue just 3 herbs, of which I ingested only tiny amounts anyway. I choose to leave the DiabeTips site pretty much as it was, except for adding this note to most pages. After all, a dozen prescription-free years is a success in the eyes of many. Hopefully the changes in my personal condition won't stop others from using herbs and supplements wisely. For those who consider a dozen years of delay in prescription use to be a worthy goal, the pages of this site may still be useful. :::Michael 30 September 2005 ____________________________________________________________ |
