There are many places and resorts to go to in the UAE for the weekends. I am for now just listing the ones I have been too and enjoyed.

Sandy beach Motel (Fujairah): This is located on a bay along the Indian Ocean. It is situated on the main road of Dibba and Khor-Fakkan in Furjairah.. It's take 3 hrs or so from Abu Dhabi to reach there. It has a long stretch of beach and Chalets of different types depending on your needs. A great place to spend the weekend but make sure you book ahead of time to get a place as it is very popular. All the Chalets are within the motel grounds. Some Chalets are facing the beach, right out side your windows. There are small kitchenettes. I would advise taking your own soft drinks, cereal for breakfast etc and other things you would like as shops are far out and it normally does cost double the amount for drinks etc. Take a box of Mineral water, it will work out a lot cheaper for you. You can also barbacue in the evenings at time. The resort will provide you with a kettle for boiling water or a grill for barbecuing. However some meals you can buy from their resturant which serves both Continental and Arabic food if you're willing to spend a bit extra. Facilities include the Five Star Padi Diving Center Private beach, and temperature controlled swimming pools. You can go boating, fishing, sight-seeing tours. The Sandy Beach Diving Center offers accomodation, and diving facilties. The ocean is very close and you can see a little island about 20 meters from the beach. This is a fun area for snorkelers and divers. It's perfect too if just want to relax on a deck chair and observe. I have been there several times and I think you would like this place a lot. At The Water Sports and Sub-Aqua faclitlities you can get diving lessons, and rent or buy your own diving equipment at the Dive Store there. Another great place to go for a weekend holiday The Holiday Motel , Fujairah. This is not far from The Sandy Beach Hotel. Takes about 3 hrs or so from Abu Dhabi. They both great places to go to but I liked the Holiday Resort Accomodation a bit more. This is located in the city of Fujeirah. The accomodation is comfortable and services are good. It has connecting rooms which is good for those with families, and Satellite TV. There is a 24 hr. room service available, same day laundry service, a gift shop, swimming pools . The Last time I went they had little swimming pools for young kids. The Buheirah Residence, Sharjah. This is not a resort but a small hotel which is a great place to stay if you want to visit various places in Sharjah or Dubai. I have stayed here many times, rooms are very comfortable, there is statellite TV. It's not too expensive too. Worth it for the weekend. Please call to reserve though. Food prices are okay but remember most places do charge a little extra but that's not a problem as you have a nearby shop across the road who will even deliver after your first visit to them. Just ask for the shop's card. The local Pizza Hut will also deliver to your room! There are many places to visit in both Sharjah and Dubai and even fun places to shop. Lots of gardens & Parks, entertainments parks, spas, Deira shopping city and lots and lots of Malls and family resturants. The telephone number is: (6) 5562818 . Weekend Getaways in Abu Dhabi:

Al Jazira Hotel and Resort ( Abu Dhabi):****Star. It is located next to the famous Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club. If you are coming from Dubai or the other Emirates it's a nice place to stay for a weekend holiday in Abu Dhabi. You can either stay in an hotel room or one of the many Chalets which have fully equipped kittchenettes, private entrances and open sea view terraces. They have very nice dining rooms, grilled specialities served at the Dalma resturant, it has a Club, and a very relaxing Tea and Beverages lounge. Al Khalidia Palace Hotel and Resort (Abu Dhabi): *****Star. Located on Khalifa Street. Here you can either stay in and hotel room or a private beach chalet. The chalets have a kitchenette,a washing machine, 24 hour service and a private garden with access to the sea. It is in the midst of all shopping malls and near the Corniche.
