No Shroud... |
...Night Owl Shroud |
Welcome to NightOwl Shrouds! Let me introduce ourselves, my name is David Aucoin
and my wife Marylou, we have started a business making truss tube shrouds for those
who do not have one for their scopes, whether they are homemade or commercially
made. Ever since I rebuilt my Coulter 13" into a truss tube scope, I wondered
where I could get a shroud to block the annoying streetlights and extraneous
sky brightness from ruining my observing endeavours. I kindly asked my wife
if she could help me and she went ahead and made a shroud for my scope. Well, after
my friends saw my shroud, they asked for one and soon word caught on and we
were making shrouds for evryone who had a truss tube scope in our neck of the
woods. Most manufacturer's of truss tube dobsonians will only sell you a shroud if you purchased one of their scopes or you automatically get one with the purchase of their truss tube dob We offer our talents to you, the amateur astronomer, who needs protection from the hazards of artificial and natural lights. No more wasted nights of trying to find that elusive planetary nebula or faint galaxy due to unwanted streetlight glare or your neighbors unruly security lights. Just slip one of these over your scope and right away notice a 2 magnitude* increase in your light gathering ability. Say goodbye to streetlights and say hello to dark nights! With a NightOwl shroud on your scope, you are sure to have more enjoyable nights of deep sky obsserving! *magnitude difference noticable from no shroud to using a NightOwl Shroud. |

Our truss tube shrouds are made of stretch nylon or spandex. They will stretch to
accomodate your tube and are secured in place with a drawstring at the top of
your scope. Most maufacturers of truss tube shrouds make their shrouds of
non-stretch codura backpack material that is, albeit waterproof, tough to put
on and secure by one person with Velcro hook and loop fasteners. Our shrouds are
sewn one piece with a drawstring at the top. Generous amounts of material are
used to make sure you get a snug fit and still have an easy removal of the shroud
in a snap! |

Our shrouds come in basic black or any custom color or pattern you desire. However,
where as a basic black shroud is the cheapest depending on the size of your
scope, a custom pattern or color will cost more based on the cost of the material
and availability and the cost of the inner black liner. Examples shown above
highlight some possible patterns and colors. A custom shroud will have the color
or pattern on the outside and a sewn in black inner liner, both made of stretchable
nylon. Our shrouds are machine washable and can be folded up into a very
small package. |

As you can see, there are endless possibilities to the pattern or color of your choice.
Whether it be basic black, blue, red, green, yellow or maybe a tiger print,
camoflage, pastels, zebra striped, gold lame or silver lame, shimmering hologram...the
list is endless. With your color or print, there is the basic black
liner to provide a black interior tube while showing off your personality on the
exterior. Colors and patterns are limited to availability and will cost more
depending on the price of the fabric or pattern and the addition of the black
liner. Shrouds can be purchased without the liner. |

So now you have decided to order a shroud, Great! Now I need some information from
you. Here is what I need:: 1. Email me for a quote based on the diameter of your scope mirror and total length of the scope and: 2. Measure the circumference of the upper tube assembly at a point just above your upper tube clamps. 3. Measure the length of the truss tubes from the top of the upper tube clamps to the bottom of the lower tube clamps on the mirror box. If the lower tube clamps are on the inside of the mirror box, measure to the top of the mirror box and add 3" 4. Measure the circumference of your mirror box. If round great, if square, measure the sides and give me the diameter of the mirror box and the square inches total. 5. Tell me if you want a basic black shroud or a particular pattern. Then tell me if you want a black liner with your pattern or no liner at all I will then get you a quote based on the above information and send it to you in an email. You can write back telling me if you want/dont want the shroud. It will generally take a week from the time I receive your email confirmation to the time your shroud is ready to ship. Payment is due before delivery takes place. At the moment, I can accept personal checks or money orders. I will look into Paypal purchases in the near future. Shippings is typically $5.00 CON US per shroud. |

Each custom made shroud comes complete with
a carry bag. Individual bags may be ordered for use as secondary mirror covers |
