McCarty Family

Updated December 15, 2001

The following pages are transcribed from the McCarty portion of a genealogy book published in 1966 by D. C. and Ruby Yvette Williams called Bradley–Gibson–Jenkins Allied Families.

These pages are only here as a source for the researchers who asked to see what material I had about James McCarty from Virginia who married Nancy Bosley (Bozeley) ca. 1754 and their descendents.  Maybe there will be information helpful to you, too.

I am Ruby's granddaughter, DeeDee.  My grandmother was born Ruby Yvette Jenkins.  Her first marriage was to my grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Gibson.  Her second marriage was to my step grandfather, D. C. Williams, so I am not a descendent of his Williams family (that I know of).  Since I have finally transcribed the material, you can now search the pages (see site search below).

Also, I have found out information to supplement this data.  For instance, Thomas McCarty, born ca. 1755, married Elizabeth Williams (and some say Elizabeth Ashe).  At the time the original research was done, her surname wasn't known.  My line is through Cornelius and Susannah (Hardwick) McCarty.

I have added some brief comments when new information was available.  When each of my direct ancestors are first mentioned in their biographies, their names are highlighted in bold text.

Generation 1:

James McCarty of Virginia is the first definitely known ancestor of the Kentucky and Indiana McCartys.  He mar. ca. 1754 Nancy Bosley or Bozeley, whose ancestry will probably be found in Maryland.  After James’ death in Virginia, Nancy moved to Kentucky where she died in Meade County April 18, 1813 at the home of her son Thomas McCarty.  James McCarty d.
