I have been an amateur astronomer since I was a child. I own a Celestron 8 inch telescope that I use for my serious observations of mostly the sun, moon and planets. Here is a photo of my C-8 used to take many of the photos on this page. I also use 11x80 binoculars to get wide field views of the heavens. I had two short stories published in Astronomy Magazine in September 1986 and February 1989. You can view them as PDF files by clicking here. I have had several of my astrophotos shown on local news stations in the Washington, DC area. You can view them in the photo section below. I also give regular talks to elementary and middle school classes to get children interested in astronomy. Here is an article from The Free Lance-Star which talked about my presentations to Park Ridge Elementary School.

Currently, I write a monthly astronomy column for The Free Lance-Star. Click on the following links to view past columns: April 2007 May 2007 June 2007 July 2007 August 2007 September 2007 October 2007 November 2007 December 2007 January 2008 February 2008

One of my greatest inspirations to study and share astronomy with others came from from my high school astronomy professor, Col. John W. Kritzar. I knew Col. Kritzar for many years, and he was one of the most kind and gentle souls I have ever encountered. He passed away on March 19, 2001, but his legacy lives on. Please read this tribute to Col. John W. Kritzar that I have created in his memory.

If you want to learn more about what is happening in the heavens above, check out the Sky and Telescope and Astronomy Magazines' web sites. You can also look at the latest and greatest pictures and information from the Hubble Space Telescope page. Of course, the NASA homepage is also a great source of space mission and science information for anyone interested in space sciences and astronomy. Two must-see websites are the Mars Exploration Rover Mission and the Cassini Mission to Saturn. Additionally, check out Richard Bell's astronomy webpage. He is an astronomer living in Michigan.

We are living in a "golden age" of astronomy with all the recent discoveries being made by the Hubble Telescope and other astronomical technologies. The recent Mars Exploration Rover Missions and the Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn have also breathed new life into the US space program. Astronomy is definitely looking up!
