| An important thing to remember is that a healthy stingray is a hungry stingray! |
| Feeding time is one of the best things about owning a stingray. They become very tame and curious of the hand that feeds them. All our rays are fed by hand, although some experts believe you should only ever feed a stingray by using forceps or by throwing the food in for them to find themselves, we have always enjoyed hand feeding ours and have never had any problems. It is only sensible though to be very cautious of their sting. There have been incidents where people have been stung just by accidently touching the very toxic stinger. The venom is protein based but very little is known about just how toxic it is, but thankfully there has not been any known fatalities.... Very little is known about the toxicity of the venom of each different species of ray. |
