DARN's
Purpose
The group was formed to meet the needs of families who
children have been
diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (AS) or other High Functioning forms of
Autism (HFA). DARN functions basically as a local support group whose
members represent a diverse mix of economic status, cultures & religions.
Collectively, our members hold a wealth of knowledge. Each of us holds a
piece of the puzzle that another person just might need. Collectively, we
can mend lives fragmented by Asperger Syndrome. Together we can make the
journey a little more manageable.
Our Mission Statement
We will lend a listening ear and an empathetic heart.
We will support and uplift each other as we do our part.
To educate each other, our communities, doctors and our schools, too,
That our children are able, they just need the right tools. - Audrey Schilb
Goals
We are primarily a local support group. Our goals
are to accept differently
abled individuals & their families while providing a supportive, positive,
empathic & understanding atmosphere in which an exchange of ideas, concerns,
methods, resources, community education & developing community programs can
occur. We will get through this together! We are currently achieving our
goals by the following means:
* A Local Support Group
* Newsletters
* Multi Media Resource List
* Suggested Research Material
* Web Site Addresses
* Medical Resources Ideas
* Seminar Information
* Childrenšs Books pertaining to A.S.
* Parenting Books for A.S.
* Individual Education Plan (IEP) Ideas
* Behavior Management Ideas
* Community Awareness Programs
