Extraordinary talent, keen wit, tenacity and a bizarre sense of humor are the elements of Patrika Darbo's formula for success. Her formula is working magic.
Patrika, born in Jacksonville, Florida, attended Georgia Southern College,
the Theatre Atlanta School of Drama, and performed with Theatre Atlanta. Patrika
moved to California to pursue an acting career and took a job as a credit
manager to pay her bills. She performed in television shows, commercials and
community theatre at every possible opportunity. It was at the Burbank Little
Theatre where she met her husband, Rolf Darbo. He was the stage manager and
she was in the chorus for a production of Anything Goes. They married two
years later on the stage of the Golden Mall Playhouse. The theatre continued
to play an integral part in her life, causing Patrika's supervisor in the
credit department to force her to make a decision between acting and upholding
the "corporate image." With little hesitation, Patrika quit her
9 to 5 job to become a full time actress.
It seems that Patrika made the right decision. She was cast almost immediately
in the stage production of Cheatin by Del Shores. Her success led her to a
role in Shore's next play, Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will? a role she
recreated for the MGM film version of the play. Patrika was presented with
the Golden Cane Award for Best Actress at the 10th Annual International Comedy
Film Festival in Vevey, Switzerland for her comedic achievement. Audiences
have since enjoyed Patrika's work on both the big and little screens. You
may remember her performance in In the Line of Fire with John Malkovich and
Clint Eastwood or Leaving Normal with Christine Lahti and Meg Tilly, a role
which earned her rave reviews. She has also worked with Whoopi Goldberg in
Corrina, Corrina and was heard as the third sheep on the left in Babe. She
recently reunited with Clint Eastwood who directed her as the pivotal character
in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Patrika's stage credits include Never Too Late, The American Dream, Cat on
a Hot Tin Roof, Don't Drink the Water, George M, and the critically acclaimed
Club Indigo, Revisited.
Patrika recently appeared in the critically acclaimed Disney/ABC telepic The
Ruby Bridges Story. She portrayed Roseanne in the controversial NBC-TV movie
of the week Roseanne and Tom: Behind the Scenes. Some of her favorite television
credits include a series regular on Step by Step, and guest appearances on
Sisters, The Client, Seinfeld, Growing Pains, Grace Under Fire and General
Hospital.
Patrika's wit and humor have established her as a veteran of the talk show
circuit where she was noted as a favorite guest of Johnny Carson. Other talk
show appearances include Jay Leno's The Tonight Show, The Dennis Miller Show,
E!'s Inside Word, and HBO's Comedy Central.
Patrika is enjoying her role on Days and is quickly becoming accustomed to
the frenetic pace of daytime television. She celebrates her birthday on April
6 and has red hair and hazel eyes. She and her husband share their L.A. home
with two dogs, a Carin Terrier named "Rocky" and a Shepherd/Show/Lab/Akita
mix, "Shooter".
They say that behind every powerful man is an equally powerful woman. Soon after Dr. Craig Wesley arrived at Salem's University Hospital to challenge Mike for the Chief of Staff position, Craig's wife Nancy debuted in Salem like a whirlwind. Mrs. Craig Wesley possesses the same ruthless and duplicitous qualities as her husband, and played by the vivacious Patrika Darbo, Nancy Wesley is a force to be reckoned with.
Nancy is the cunning
and manipulative wife of Dr. Craig Wesley. She works as head volunteer at
University Hospital in order to keep a close eye on her husband and his rival,
Mike Horton. Nancy is extremely loyal to her husband and will stop at nothing
to defeat Mike and see Craig elected as the new Chief of Staff.
Working as a team, Nancy and Craig repeatedly tried to unseat Mike Horton.
In one failed attempt, she enlisted the help of Nurse Ali McIntyre to end
Mike's career. In the midst of her plotting, Nancy was diagnosed with breast
cancer. Mike was unexpectedly sensitive to her case and, for a moment, it
appeared as if the two were growing closer. When she received a clean bill
of health, however, Nancy was back on the warpath and she encouraged Ali to
file a sexual harassment case against Mike. In time, Mike was forced to resign
as Chief of Staff and he left town. When he came back, Mike was offered the
job again much to Craig dismay but Mike chose to ask Carrie to marry him and
leave town. Finally, Craig got the position he wanted and the couple looked
forward to celebrating their new life.
Their happiness was cut short, however, when Nancy received a mysterious phone
call and left town with $25,000 and no explanation. At an orphanage outside
of Salem, Nancy offered orphanage head, Mrs. Rush, the money to take care
of the daughter she gave up for adoption! As a teenager, Nancy was coerced
into a one-night stand with her father's friend and gave birth to a baby girl.
Plagued with shame and unable to care for the child, Nancy gave the baby up
for adoption. Nearly 16 years later, Nancy came face to face with her child
for the first time and, after an emotional reunion, she invited Chloe to live
with her in Salem. When Craig arrived at the orphanage, Nancy and Chloe decided
to hide the truth. Craig was not happy with the prospect of adoption and,
due to his negative reception, Chloe decided to run away. Nancy attempted
to follow her daughter and was hit by a truck in the process. Much to Craig's
dismay, Chloe resurfaced at the hospital where Nancy was in a coma. When Chloe
sang a lullaby, Nancy miraculously opened her eyes. Later, Chloe moved in
with the Nancy and Craig and began school at Salem High.
At home, Nancy struggled to keep Chloe's identity from Craig and to adapt
to her new role as mother. When Nancy's father, Albert Miller, came to town,
things became more complicated. Craig and Albert constantly butted heads and
when he discovered that Chloe was his granddaughter, he suggested that he
care for the child. Unable to sustain her lie, Nancy confessed to Craig that
Chloe was her biological daughter. The news shocked Craig and dealt a serious
blow to their marriage. Most recently, Nancy has reconciled with her husband
and committed to raising Chloe in a proper home. Craig is warming up to the
idea and slowly accepting Chloe as his own.
