DANK Phoenix, Chapter #48, was founded in 1983 as a local chapter of the Chicago based DANK.   "DANK" is a German-American cultural club that was founded it 1959 to bring together Germans and Americans and to preserve and enjoy the German heritage and culture.  Other goals include retaining the German language, fostering German "Gemuetlichkeit" (coziness) and organizing festivals and dances.

The Phoenix Chapter of DANK represents the metropolitan area of Phoenix and some neighboring areas in Arizona, such as the Prescott, Payson and Tucson areas.  Monthly meetings are held on the third Sunday of the month, except June, July and August, at the European Bistro, 951 W. Main St., Mesa, AZ (next to Quality Inn Motel).  The German language may be spoken at the monthly meetings, but the meeting itself will be conducted in English.

The two major events organized by DANK Phoenix each year are the May Dance and a German-American Day observance in October.

A German language Christmas service is held each year by Pastor Traugott Vogel at the Hillside Baptist Church in North Phoenix.

A newsletter covering the chapter's activities is published 11 times a year and sent to members and other people interested in joining the chapter.
