SLO (say it slow) is THE place to go!!!!

San Luis Obispo, California is a fabulous Central California town nearly on the Coast and nearly inland. It has playful ocean breezes to keep the temperature moderate and still packs enough heat to warm miles and miles of beautiful vineyards! SLO has everything a big city needs packed into a small town atmosphere and chock full of friendly people. Highlights of the town include the home of Cal Poly (California Polytechnic State University), the center of one of the newest California wine regions, host to one of the first California missions (founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1772 - San Luís Obispo de Tolosa), minutes from the famous Hearst Castle (San Simeon), home of the renowned Madonna Inn and minutes from some of the dog friendliest beaches anywhere!

With some tremendous efforts from a whole host of volunteers - we hope to make the PWDCA National Specialty 2010 the best Specialty ever! Our dream host hotel is an all suite hotel, every guest suite has a living room (with sofa bed) and a bedroom with one or two beds, a microwave and a refrigerator, flat screen televisions in each of the two rooms in each suite; the hotel features a full made to order breakfast each day (made to order omelettes, fruits, juices, waffles, pancakes, hot and cold cereals, etc.); in addition each afternoon there is a 2 hour manager's reception featuring complimentary beverages and hors d'ouevres, the hotel also has a sparkling new fitness center fully equipped with the latest 'stuff' and an indoor pool and spa. There are full conference services and about 10,000 sq ft of conference space, with a very friendly, helpful staff. To make this even better, this fine hotel is literally across the street from the park entrance that would host the conformation and performance portions of the Specialty. The Park hosts a scenic lake and the only off leash dog park in SLO. There is plenty of RV parking and space for the rings. This is a City park and the rangers are excited by our proposed event. Back to the hotel to note the short 15 mile drive to a gorgeous lake for the water trial. This lake has over 22 miles of shoreline and the proposed water trial site is a wake free zone, the shore creates a pretty perfect amphitheater shape so that spectators may sit on the shaded, grassy areas complete with picnic tables and watch the water antics from a wonderful vantage point. In addition to all of the above, there is another hotel across the street from the host hotel to accommodate overflow capacity, it is dog friendly and each room will have a microwave and refrigerator; this hotel is converting a portion of its parking lot to a fenced dog area for play and potty activities. This hotel also includes a continental breakfast. The host hotel is within a shopping plaza including such stores as Sears, Mervyns, Petco, Staples, etc., and a host of eateries.

The town of SLO (affectionately known as 'SLO town') features a full farmers market every Thursday night - the main street closes to traffic to be replaced by stands filled with locally grown produce, vintners and specialty stores offering their wares - Thursday night it's where it happens in SLO!
Let's say it again then, SLO is THE place to go!
