Hardin County was formed in 1793 from Nelson County (Nelson was formed in 1785 from Jefferson County, which was formed from Kentucky County, VA in 1780). It is located in the Pennyrile region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 383 to 1017 feet above sea level. In 1990 the county population was 89,240 in a land area of 628 square miles, an average of 142.1 people per square mile. The county seat is Elizabethtown. |
