The Catholic Walking Club of Victoria was founded in 1951 and celebrated it's 50th year in May 2001.
As part of the celebrations a special edition of the Club magazine "The Walker" was published. In it there are numerous articles from past and present - an interesting look back over the years.

The Club's objectives are the encouragement of walking and allied activities and the fostering of a greater appreciation of the outdoors. Currently, we have around 140 members from all areas of Melbourne and country areas.

Kerry Maher has also put together a magazine (in pdf format) with recollections from various members.

ARTICLES FROM THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION OF "THE CATHOLIC WALKER"

Do you remember that trip when we…

Story-telling has always been important in our Club. Through stories, we can relive the past. Stories give meaning to experience, and they can also tell us who we are, as individuals or as a group.

I would like to introduce this anthology of stories and other snippets, which tells something of the story of fifty years of the Catholic Walking Club of Victoria, and which is just one part of the celebration of the fifty-year milestone of the Club.

This publication contains quite a lot of previously written material. As stories are best told as the events occur, we have purposely gone through old editions of The Catholic Walker, plus other old records to include in the selection. As well as these articles from the past, there is also quite a number of newly written pieces by a wide variety of Club members. Whilst it is not possible to include everything, we hope that this collection will represent many aspects of our Club.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this publication, especially people who have written new articles. Special thanks must also go to Tom Buykx, who has kept me to a timeline (or tried to anyway) and provided organisational assistance; and to Paul Roberts who helped with the final layout.
