| Sharron Burns – Soprano
Sharron began her training at Birmingham Conservatoire where she studied for four years with Barbara McGuire and Paul Hamburger. She continued her post-graduate studies at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff under the direction of Maureen Guy. During her time in Birmingham, Sharron won the Vincent Lieder Prize, Clare Barfield Opera Prize, and was awarded the Sybil Tutton Scholarship. Her operatic roles have included Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, First Lady in The Magic Flute, Ida in Die Fledermaus, Fleurette in Christopher Columbus, Giorgetta in Il Tabarro and Tatyana in Eugene Onegin. On the concert platform Sharron was thrilled to sing the Wesendonck Lieder by Wagner with the W.C.M.D. Orchestra conducted by John Lubbock in Llandaff Cathedral, which led to an invitation a repeat performance with the pianist Julian Jacobson at the Royal Northern College of Music. Sharron travelled to Malaysia in 1996 to perform a series of concerts with the pianist Juin-Yoong Lim, and in 1998 she won the Challenge Solo Cup at the Cardigan Bay Eisteddford in West Wales. Most recently, Sharron has returned to her first love of musical comedy and has played the roles of Yum-Yum in The Mikado, Joanna in Godspell, Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly and The Duchess in Me And My Girl. Sharron played the leading role in Wallop Mrs Cox at Birmingham Repertory Theatre in July 2002 and Febuary 2003. Sharron is one of the producers of CWAGMS and works very hard in making CWAGMS very professional. |
