"Cops" in Concert originated in Riverside, California, when two Riverside Police Officers, Scott Olsen and Jerry Carroll,
came together to perform a musical act for their fellow officers at a police awards banquet. Scott provided the lead
vocals, and Jerry the comedy relief. The act was so popular they expanded the group and
performed a series of concerts in the Riverside area to raise money for a police
memorial, honoring officers killed in the line of duty. They raised
ten thousand dollars and a memorial statue was commissioned.
"Safe in His Arms" now stands in front of the Riverside Police
Department.
As the group performed throughout southern California, Scott formed his own musical production and publishing companies where he produced several
recordings for the group, including their first album, "First Offense", and their
current album, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". Jerry continued to pursue his
"comedy" career and became Chief of the Riverside Police Department.
Scott has
performed with rock and country bands since the age of sixteen. He
also spent three years as a disc-jockey in the Midwest before heading for
California. There he joined the Riverside Police Department, where
he patrolled as a motorcycle officer for the last 15 years. Scott retired after 25 years in law enforcement, and now lives in
Wisconsin. He still maintains close ties to RPD, as both his sons are Police Officers in
Riverside.
Dave Stewart, A
talented guitarist and
songwriter, joined Scott in the "Cops"
studio in 1985. They have since worked on a variety of projects, recording
over 40 songs together.
Robert
Olsen, Scott's youngest son, grew up with "Cops" in Concert. By age eighteen he
had become an accomplished drummer and was ready to join his dad in the studio.
Rob is now a Police Officer with the Riverside Police Department.
Corey Olsen, Scott's brother, performed on keyboards and created the albums orchestral
arrangements.
Daniel Olsen, Scott's oldest son, provided the computer work on the album,
designed the album's cover graphics and text, and created this web page.
Dan is a Police Officer with the Riverside Police Department.
