Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, to grow, to develop leadership skills, and to become good citizens. Venturing crews can specialize in a variety of avocation or hobby interests. The activities of Crew 976 revolve around military history and reenactment, principally that of the United States Army in World War Two. With a focus of American Coast Artillery regiments stationed in the United States at the dawn of America's involvement in the war, our Crew's activities include World War Two reenactments and Living Histories, camping, hiking, tours of Military installations past and present, community service projects through our Sponsoring Organization, the National Armed Services and Law Enforcement Memorial Museum, volunteer work at our focal point in Pinellas, Fort DeSoto Park, military customs, courtesies, drill, and firearms safety training and marksmanship.Crew Members also have the opportunity for Scholarships to Universities and Academies through a program sponsored by Texas A&M University, and possibly a future career as an Officer in the United States Military. ![]()
