Welcome to Crestwood Mastiffs' home page. Our love of Mastiffs began in 1990, after having spent the prior twenty years with Australian Shepherds (we still keep one around as well as the occasional Rottweiler).
During this thirty years with purebred dogs, we have developed a breeding philosophy that stresses health, temperament and longevity. As one of my favorite vets was fond of saying, "if you have temperament, longevity and genetic and reproductive soundness, proper conformation will automatically follow." Because of this, we don't breed often as our breeding stock must meet strict standards regarding complete health testing, structure and temperament.
All potential litters will have sire and dam clear on OFA hips, elbows, cardiac, patella and thyroid (or MSU full thyroid panel equivalent), CERF eyes, von Willebrands, Cystinuria and either be DNA PRA cleared or be from cleared parents. While no one can guarantee you won't experience a problem, we feel it is necessary to do everything possible to reduce the risk by knowing what the total health picture is for our dogs, and making breeding decisions based on facts, not suppositions.
We are expanding our site to include new information (as well as adding to our picture galleries). The areas currently under construction are "The Right Puppy" and "Natural Diet." We are also adding pictures to "Solitaire's" site as she grows (see her under "The Girls"). We have new pictures on Solitaire's site—added page "Tara Training."
