Building a better buggy..

...a medium difficulty conversion for Space marine bikes....

Atb1001.jpg (112059 bytes)

For this conversion you will need the following ingredients:

2 Space marine bikes, Epoxy putty, Plastic card (0.5mm, 1mm and 2mm.approx.), a short length of aluminium wire, (1/16th), A pack of assorted Plastic tubing, (evergreen scale models item No.217), a suitable Heavy weapon (Mine are left over Landspeeder Bolters), and a few space marine bits.

About this conversion....

A Picture of the real thing....

This conversion came about for several reasons, not least of which was that I had a couple of unused bikes laying around. Also I kind of liked the idea of   doing a Quad bike, didn't like the normal attack bikes much, nor could I afford one. I found I could purchase three normal bikes for just a fraction more than a single attack bike, and so the idea was born.

STEP 1

Assemble the main chasse and wheels, making sure that the wheels are glued firmly in place. (a word on glues: GW plastic is VERY soft. Spilling glue will destroy the surface of your kit. For this reason I don't recommend the use of liquid Plastic cement, instead use one that comes with one of those needle applicator thingys.) Do this twice. Allow to dry Thoroughly.

STEP 2

(the tricky part) Cut the kits apart as shown in the picture.

Do this very carefully, trying to destroy as little of the kits as possible. Right about now you are thinking "Golly, what a nasty mess." Don't worry, it gets worse.    No. not really. Just take your time, it'll all turn out in the end. DON'T throw anything out.

STEP 3

Take the two rear wheel pods and sand the front until it is flat. Now fill and smooth the 'orrible scar on the front.

STEP 4

(the other tricky bit) Carefully Shave the exhaust pipe detail from one side of the pod, leaving the pod as shown in left hand example shown bellow.

Continue to trim until it looks like the one on the right. You may need to trim away  some epoxy putty from the exposed wheel. Glue a Hubcap from the wheel sprue on after trimming the 'Axle' stub from the back. The pods then had Their front and top surface covered with thin plastic card. this is not essential, but neatens up the whole thing. BE VERY CAREFUL ensure that you have a LEFT and a RIGHT handed pod.

STEP 5

Cut a piece of 1mm Plastic card 22mm wide by 26mm long. Cut that into the shape shown in the picture (the measurements are not Critical), and glue into place as shown, to the bottom of the remaining exhausts, bridging the two wheel pods.

STEP 6

Cut another piece 18mm wide x 15mm long, and glue this into position as shown.

STEP 7

Cut a last piece 22mm wide x about 10mm deep to glue on the rear.

STEP 8

Trim the Floor Plate to just behind the large Square block molded on the bottom, and glue in place under the chasse. Take the chasse and glue to the wheel pods, butting the front of the first piece of plastic card up against the third molded cross piece on the foot plate.
