History

We were founded in 1987 as the Newton County Quilting Guild. In 1989 we changed our name to reflect our multi-county diversity to the Cotton Boll Quilt (CBQ) Guild. Presently we have members from Rockdale, Newton, Morgan, Walton, Jasper, Henry, Gwinnett, Greene, Putnam and Butts counties.

Purpose

The purpose of CBQ is to preserve the tradition, culture and history of quilting, and to promote the knowledge and understanding of the art of quilting through continuing services for members and public education activities, and to enjoy rather than judge each other's work.

CBQ also presents a strong community commitment with its charitable donations. For the period covering 1987 through 2006 CBQ has raised over $90,000 for organizations such as Council on Battered Women, Rockdale County CASA, Shepherds Gate Hospice, Crossroads School, Rockdale Council of Child Abuse, Unity Hospice, Project ReNeWal, Newton Reads, Meals on Wheels, and Breast Cancer Research to name just a few.

Meetings

Our meetings are held monthly August to November and January through April.
They are open to anyone interested in the art of quilting. Our December and May meetings are social in nature and are closed to non-members. We meet at Family Life Center behind Salem Methodist Church, in Covington on the fourth Tuesday at 6:30 PM.
