Costa RicaCollege offers a strong integral studies
program of ancient mind-body disciplines. These Royal Arts
include:
Internal Chinese martial arts and
sciences for health and meditation, and
Yoga studies from China,
India, Tibet.
We have classes daily for the
local lay community, as well as for those interested in the Teacher
Training Programs.
Additionally, an
extremely rich range of activities is possible in this tropical Caribbean
ambience of Costa Rica.
Eco-tourism, surfing (both body and boards), horseback riding, attaining PADI diver
certification, sea kayaking, cycling, running/walking the beaches and mountain
trails are all parts of the Costa Rica College lifestyle.
Obviously the
emphasis throughout the CRC experience is placed on the Self inter-acting with
natural environments. This is reality-based education, as well as therapy for a
large range of illnesses generated by modern industrial lifestyles.
Here is the mission
statement of Costa RicaCollege of the Royal
Arts:
[ To improve overall health and well-being
of the community;
[To offer solid instruction in
traditional yogic, health, and internal martial arts;
[To train and certify bonafide
Instructors, and to offer on-going educational support to these Instructors;
[To create reverence for and personal
identification with natural environments;
[To encourage cross-cultural understanding.
Costa RicaCollege is unique in another way: We offer
resident internships for selected students as well as the normal tutelage arrangements
for non-boarding students. The number of resident students is necessarily low,
and preference is given to those opting for the Teacher Training
Programs--though others also may be considered. There are a number of
share-housing arrangements as well as apartments, cabaņas, houses for rent in
the area, and CRC can help you secure one of those.
Costa RicaCollege is under the direction of Edward Orem.
Master Orem has 42 years training in Chinese martial
arts, 12 years' experience in competition running, 25 years practice in several
yoga disciplines, with work assignments covering private, educational, and
public health environments. From time to time, Master Orem presents community
outreach activities (lectures, workshops)
in which students may become involved. We also offer classes in Spanish and
English as a Second Language. Students are expected to launch their own
Outreach Projects, e.g forest and beach
custodianship, establishing community organic gardens, involvement with
indigenous Talamancaindios,
etc.
