Okay, Follow up to OTR Digest Listers
Some more of what we (My bride and I) did the weekend of Nov 1st -3rd, The SPERDVAC Old Time Radio 2002 convention held at the Hacienda
Hotel at LAX out on the West coast.
Of course there were plenty of opportunities to mingle with the fellow conventioneers and renew old acquaintances as well
as make new ones. I've not attended any OTR conventions other than the SPERDVAC sponsored fetes, although
I've been invited to an FOTR session last and a OMFF get-together in the Northwest. Other committments
precluded my being able to attend, but when I go I take in most of what's available. I thought
perhaps an opportunity to meet members of the various web OTR lists existing was missed in that
there were no congregation areas set up for them. Perhaps next convention there may be.
It's I again at the my first convention meal, having
purposely skipped lunch so that I could pack it in at dinner time, and I wasn't disappointed at the fare.
I imagine the chicken was, but I wasn't. I certainly didn't need the cherry cheesecake but I ate my share
nevertheless, (I had been told by Barbara Watkins that Hal Stone was to be at the convention for
one of the recreations and I didn't want him to get my cheesecake!) Barbara had invited me to do parts in
both of the "30 Minutes to Curtain" recreations at the Conventions's Friday 4:30 afternoon
sessions.
Of course I was waiting for MY show of the day which was to take place at 7:PM, the Dinner Hour!
After amiable table talk getting acquainted with our seat mates we were treated to Bobb Lynes
production of "This Is Your FBI."
Here we can see how pleased Bobb is at
how the production was received by the conventioneers. This was taken at Bobb's dealer table
where he was offering his book of Old Time Radio programs info art posters presentations depicting
Bobb's drawings of their various artists. Bobb was a busy participant of the '02 Convention
not only producing the Friday banquet offering, dealing his art book, but performing in two
recreations as well. A busy fellow, Bobb has served on the SPERDVAC Board of Directors, has been
been its president and is its resident commercial artist
