Martha Wentworth's photo and credit submission to Issue No. 3
December 15, 1940 of "The National Radio Artists' Directory. It lists
Martha's credits achieved during a span of working the Los Angeles area
career in the sunshine.
I remember doing a few shows working with Martha Wentworth, with her doing
just ordinary female voice roles, nothing as spectacular as when she played
"Nancy, the Witch from Salem" in "The Witch's Tale" as George Wagner reminded us
on this list. Dennis Crow compares Martha's "witching" abilities to those of "Wizard of Oz" fame,
Margaret Hamiliton. I'm afraid only over the air is where such a comparison would stand, for Martha
Wentworth was in appearance much prettier than Margaret. (See her Directory picture) But of course,
to be fair, Miss Hamilton had the luxury of makeup to dull her features.
Notice from her credits Martha only alludes to an ability to portray any kind
of "witch", "hag", or otherwise by a SPECIALTIES entry of 'Old women, and a "Ma Matcher", whomever that might be.
Elizebeth...have you come across such a character in your researching?
