Miss Connie's Kindergarten Class
November 12, 2007

Dear Families,

For the next 3 weeks we will begin a new unit in our reading curriculum, "Friends Together".  During this time visit with your little one about friendships, how to be a friend, find out who their friends are and why, how enjoyable having friends is, communicate about your friends as a child and now.  Enjoy visiting with our student about friends.

Our new alpha-friends will be "Hh" (Hattie Horse), "Vv" (Vinnie Volcano), "Cc" (Callie Cat) and "Aa" (Andy Apple).  Please note it is a secret so do not let our student know who is the next alpha-friend.

In Math we are learning about solid shapes; cylinders, cubes, spheres, cones, and rectangular prisms.  We also continue to sort and graph these items.

In science/social studies we will be learning about "Things that Move".

Re:  Homework Folders:  Please go through them every night and send back every morning.  I will be sending new folders home soon with new communication.

Challenge to families:  Communicate and teach your little one their phone number and address.  Our fireman who visited last week issued this need.  My dad taught me when I was 5 years old so if I can learn my phone number and address at age 5 I know our student can because they are soooo much smarter than I was!

Re:  Fridays.  Fridays are a little more special than the other days at school.  The PTO sells popcorn and juice boxes.  Popcorn=0.50 cents.  Juice=0.25 cents.  It is 'boys day'.  Usually the girls do everything first but Fridays we treat the boys special.  I like the young men to treat the young ladies (and older) with respect and courtesy.  We also have "Show and Tell".  They can bring an item but it must fit into their backpacks and not be alive.  Alive critters are so very welcome but a family member needs to bring it.  Speaking clearly, articulation and voice pitch are practiced.  They all enjoy being center of attention.  If they forget an item I ask if there is something they would like to tell us about.

Thank you for being your child's greatest teacher!
