Homenetmen of New York is one of 99; Budapest, Hungary being the latest, Homenetmen chapters with over 25,000 members worldwide.

The term Homenetmen (pronounced- home men et men) is an acronym derived from the initials of the Armenian name of the organization, which translated stand for Armenian General Athletic Union . The organization was originally founded in 1918 in Costantinople (modern Turkey) by Krikor Hagopian, Hovaness Hintlian, and Shavarsh Krissian. This year we are celebrating the 90th Anniversary of our organization.

Homenetmen is an Armenian organization devoted to Athletics and Scouting its motto is "Elevate Yourself and Others with You" (Partsratsir ou Partsratsour).

In the United States, the first Homenetmen is believed to have been started in New York in 1921 by founders Mamas Ghubeserian, Onnik Kemangian and Hagop Karabekian. In 1922 Olympic Games were held in Brooklyn, New York; with chapters from Boston and New Jersey taking part.

The Homenetmen of New York chapter was established in 1977. The New York chapter is a not-for-profit organization. Chapter's team colors are navy blue and white which are taken from New York City's flag colors. The chapter has an office at the Armenian Center located at 69-23 47 Avenue in Woodside, New York. We currently have basketball and soccer teams which compete in local leagues, as well as Homenetmen tournaments in North America.

Currently there are 10 Homenetmen chapters including New York in the eastern region of the United States. The chapters are Albany, Boston, Chicago,Detroit, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Providence, South Florida and Washington D.C.
