| Henderson RC Club; FAQ's 1. How many members do you have? Around 45, it varies from year to year. 2. How do you join the Henderson RC Club? Complete the membership application show on this web page and provide it with the appropriate membership dues to the Secretary/Treasurer. 3. Do you accept new members? Yes, simply complete the application on the web page and submit it with the necessary annual dues to the club secretary or stop by the Flying-Z-Hobby Shop, in Sebree, KY. 4. Does the Henderson RC Club own or lease its field? We lease 94 acres from a local landowner. We have the contract through 2005 with an option for 5 more years. 5. How big is the Henderson RC Club field? The actual landing surface is 150 x 900 feet of good, smooth grass. (This is one of the largest and best RC fields in Kentucky.) We also have a large grassed pit area as well as a large, roofed and graveled shelter area. 6. What types of RC flying do you permit at the Henderson RC Club? Anything that is Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) legal. We have active members flying electric, 1/2A, glow fuel powered, gas powered, sport models, scale models, combat models, pattern models, jets, twins, multi's, helicopters, gliders, delta wings, flying wings, etc., etc. You bring it and we will all enjoy watching you fly it! 7. What are your requirements to fly at your club? First, you need to have a valid AMA membership or be on a buddy cord and radio with one of our club members, (new trainers only). Second, either be a dues paying club member, or pay landing fees (for fly-in events) or be a visiting guest of one of our club members. Third, fly safely and enjoy yourself. 8. Can I learn to fly Radio Control Aircraft at the Henderson RC Club? The Henderson RC Club has several experienced instructor pilots. The club also has an active program where we invite the public to try RC aircraft at our annual "Trainer Day Program", (the first Sunday after the 4th of July). The Club provides everything for this program; airplanes, fuel, radios, etc. and lets the public "try their hand at flying" with a minimum cost, (2-3 dollars). While, we cannot guarantee it, most of our student pilots manage to "Solo" within a few weeks. The club instructor pilots will work with new students and teach the fundamentals of RC flight. The members will also work with the student and help to recommend certain types of aircraft and equipment to learn to fly with. 9. How much does it cost to fly RC aircraft? The cost of flying RC aircraft can vary with the preferred type of airplane, number of airplanes and amount of flying a person does. It generally will cost around $325-350 to start RC flying with a 40-size trainer plane, 4-channel radio and the necessary start-up equipment. This should get you through the learning process and may provide you with years of recreation, depending on how fast you learn and how careful you are. Of course, you could become a national contest pilot and spend unlimited funds flying the biggest, best and top of the line equipment; the choice is yours. 10. What do the annual dues cover? The annual dues provide for all year long flying opportunities, voting rights at club meetings, a monthly newsletter and an opportunity to participate in one of the most fun, exciting, skill improving hobbies known. 11. Are there any maintenance requirements at the field for membership in the Club? No, your membership dues cover having the field mown and any expenses needed for maintenance to the facilities. 12. Are there any activities that other non-flying members would enjoy being a part of? Yes, one of the fun parts of RC flying is watching others fly. Also, the Henderson RC Club participates in a number of contests ranging from just "fun-fly" to RC combat to hosting an Annual fly-in where pilots from all over the mid-west come to visit, fly and have a good time. This fly-in usually has between 350-500 spectators watching some of the best RC flying in the US. 13. Will other club members help me, if I ask? Yes, most certainly. If you come out for a flying session an realize that you have accidentally left your "left- handed- what-not-wrench" at home and ask to borrow one you may find that everyone will offer you theirs, and may even ask; "Will a blue-handled-what-not-wrench, work? They may even give you theirs if they have an extra one! 14. Does the Henderson RC Club have a regular meeting time, place? Yes, the Henderson RC Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at the "Pizza Place" in Sebree, KY. The meetings start at 7pm and family and friends are always welcome. We discuss the most recent club activities, upcoming club activities, the calendar of upcoming events within the region, and we generally have a model of the month contest presented by the club members. Good food, good friends and RC flying are all talked about. Come join us next month! 15. When do the Henderson RC Club members fly? Dues paying club members have the privilege to fly any of the seven days in a week. Generally, there are members flying on every Saturday, Sunday and almost every Wednesday afternoons. Our club is active with flying all 12 months of the year. We even have club members flying with skis on their planes when we have snow cover. 16. Does the Henderson RC Club or its members visit other RC flying events? Yes, If our membership is not at our field on a given weekend you can count on the fact that most of the group is somewhere else flying. Members of our club are invited to participate at "Fly-in" events all over the country. |
