| Claire Catherine Danes was born April 12th 1979 and raised in Manhattan's funky SoHo neighbourhood. Her interests in arts were encouradged by her parents from an early age. At the age of 6 Claire began studying modern dance, which still remains her passion. At 9 she took an acting class at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. In sixth and seventh grades she attended the Professional Performing Arts School in New York. Claire's acting career began with appearances in off-Broadway productions.Claire's first appearance in a movie was at the age of 11 in "Dreams of love".Her television debut was in 1992 with one episode of the TV series "Law and Order". In 1994 she played Angela Chase in the teenage drama series "My so called life". The show was a critical smash but it was soon canceled because of poor ratings. But the show lasted long enough for Claire to be noticed. For her performance she got an EMI nomination and won a Golden Globe In 1994 she played alongside Wynona Ryder and Susan Sarandon in the cinematic adaptation of Loisa M. Alcott's classic book "Little women". The next year she appeared in "How to make an American quilt" and in "Home for the Holidays" under the direction of Jodie Foster.In 1996 she played Michelle Pfeiffer's daughter in "To Gillian on her 37th birthday" and later that year starred in "I love you I love you not" where her partners were Jude Law and the great French actress Jean Moreau. Then in 1996 Claire was chosen to play Juliet to Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo in Baz Luhrman's modern version of Shakespeare's classic "Romeo and Juliet". Her great performance and the huge success of the movie made Claire a star. After this she had the opportunity to work with directors such as Oliver Stone in his film "U-turn" and Francis Ford Coppola in "The Rainmaker" -- movie based upon Grisham's bestselling novel , and featuring also Matt Damon. In 1998 Claire played Cosette in Bille August's adaptation of Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables". Lately she could be seen in "The Mod Squad" a movie based upon the late-60's and early-70's TV series, and in "Browkedown palace" along with Kate Beckinsale and Bill Pullman. |
