| Announcing the 5th annual Sutton Massachusetts Civil War Encampment and Battle Weekend on August 3rd and 4th of 2002. This year's event will feature full encampments for Union and Confederate troops, dress parades, troop review, drill and an old time agricultural fair. Scripted battles will be featured both days. All branches of service and civilian re-enactors are invited to participate in what will be a real "fun" event for 2002 in New England! SPONSOR - The event is sponsored by the Sutton Historical Society and hosted by the 25th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry of Uxbridge, MA. Coordination of units is through the United States Volunteers, New England Brigade and the Liberty Greys of the Southern Legion, but open to all members of the re-enacting community. HISTORIC PRESERVATION - Profits from this event will go towards the Sutton Historical Society's restoration, housing and preservation of the Town of Sutton's Civil War cannon, which was gifted to the Town after the war by Congress. SCENARIOS - Scripted battles will be featured both days. An old fashioned agricultural fair will have demonstrations and judging of animals, fuits & vegeatbles, baking and sewing. A variety of fruits, vegetables, baked goods and beverages will be sold to reenactors from the ox cart in camp. A chicken BBQ will be served Saturday evening followed by the Providence Brigade Band in a concert and dance on the common. A pancake breakfast will be served Sunday morning before an ecumenical church service. SITE - The event site is the lovely, rural center of Sutton in Central Massachusetts. The encampments and battles will take place on adjoining privately owned farms. Some of these fields are part of the Town's original Revolutionary War training and parade grounds. Enjoy the rural countryside and be sure to visit the nearby Sherman Blacksmith Shop and the Sutton Historical Society Museum which houses many Civil War artifacts of Sutton veterans. |
