INDIANA JONES GALLERY
By looking at this page, you can probably guess I'm a big Indiana Jones nerd... Well, so be it.  RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK was a great source of inspiration for me, and two of the artists who did the film's art campaign -- Drew Struzan and the late, great Richard Amsel -- I've aspired to emulate.  (Struzan is widely reknown for his work on the Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Back to the Future series, while Amsel did the campaigns for THE STING, FLASH GORDON, THE CHAMP, THE SHOOTIST, MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, THE DARK CRYSTAL, MAD MAX III, and countless TV Guide covers.)  As for me, I'm still working on it, though I think I'm improving.  What you see here is a sample of the Indiana Jones-related art I've done over the course of many years -- from teenager to twentysomething.
INDY XX
2001
Acrylic and colored pencil
18"x24"
Pressed posterboard
Property of private collection.

This piece only took me three days to complete (as opposed to three years  -- SEE BELOW).  My intention was to do a portrait that was very striking with the use of light, as influenced by the work of the late Bob Peak.  (Peak did the campaigns for
STAR TREK I-V, SUPERMAN, APOCALYPSE NOW, and EXCALIBUR, among others.)  His style, seemingly simple, is VERY hard to emulate, but somehow this work -- one of the "easiest" portraits I've done, in execution, at least -- is also one of my favorites.  The "XX" engraved in the stone background celebrates the first 20 years of the screen adventurer...  And with this, the portrait here represents what is probably to be my LAST Indiana Jones piece for quite some time.  (Or at least until INDY IV...)
20th Anniversay poster
1998-2000
Acrylic and colored pencil
20"x22"
Matte board
Property of private collection.
This piece was undoubtedly the most complex thing I've done, in trying to create a "montage" approach akin to the old-style film posters of the '30s and '40s.  Much, of course, was also influenced -- okay, STOLEN -- from Stuzan's RAIDERS international poster, particularly in the coloring and design.  (Thanks for everything you've given us, Drew!)
