I'm sure you've heard many interesting and even terrifying stories about the ouija board from friends and family. You've most likely been warned about using it yourself at one time or another. Yet, millions try it every year. So how should we view the ouija board?

Well, I am now attempting to clarify some things about this specific form of connecting to spirit. Firstly though, I must explain that while
I am not pro-ouija, I am at least open to it's possible uses for human-to-spirit communications. That is to say, I believe it does actually work. But remember, is not a toy like it has been advertised.

Below you will find various information on this controversial tool of divination. I will include: A brief history with links to additional information, my personal experiences and view of the board, my spirit guides thoughts on it (which I have channeled recently), the proper use of the ouija board, signs you may be becoming too attached to the ouija, physical and psychological effects that may occur, and how to discard the board with respect and peace of mind.  Please email me should you have any questions, comments and/or experiences you'd like to share. PLEASE NOTE: Your experience will be posted on the guest stories pages but it will also be linked here as well. .
A Brief History with Links

The ouija board was born out of the Spiritualist Movement during Victorian times when spiritualists attempted to find an easier and more accessible method to communicate with the spirits. After finding some sizeable success in the higher classes of society in Europe, Canada and The U.S, ouija's were sold at carnivals under various names. Eventually, the board game company Parker Brothers acquired a patent on the item in 1966 and now we can find these boards in children's toy stores. The ouija has a lengthy yet interesting history. My Personal Experiences with The Ouija

I became curious about the ouija board in my early adolescence when many often do. I was in junior high school when my friends first introduced it to me. At the time my friends were very casual about this being only an amusing "game". It soon became clear to me (a very sensitive person and a natural medium) that it was more than that. I couldn't partake in it too much. I observed it mostly since I became ill to my stomach and developed headaches when I did use the board. My friends would laugh and not take the ouija seriously. Although it is true you cannot fully believe what is said on the board, my friends did not understand the need to be respectful of the forces they were attracting. Some thought it was amusing when it would swear at us or threaten. The friend of mine who owned the board later became somewhat obsessed with it (this is called
progressive entrapment, and is discussed in the next few sections) and in the end she became afraid enough and disposed of it somehow.

My sister and her friends in high school had similar negative experiences where the group was not careful to protect themselves and they did not take the board seriously. Not long into using the board the owner of it and some friends (with my sister present) unleashed a spirit of a man who claimed to be a former member of the Klu Klux Klan.(!) It seems that they found out quickly that you never ask the spirits to prove themselves or materialize. My sister and her friends witnessed supernatural occurences happening in her home soon after--for example: My sister's friend was yelled at by an unseen man when no one else was in the house and her cat would rear it's back and hiss at corners, also a rocking chair in her home would rock by itself. There had been no history of disturbances prior to using the board in that home.

Back to myself .....After high school, I made my own board simply out of paper. I was still curious it would seem. I also went against the traditional rule of using a ouija alone. Soon after that I wanted to rid of it since nothing positive came of it. I found the experience quite depressing in that the souls I spoke to were very sad. I always acted respectful and I never asked them to prove themselves. So, I never experienced any manifestations yet I found it very emotionally disturbing and draining. My sister also became disallusioned with her own ouija and did not use it again. She discarded it after I told her how a few years ago. She's was very glad to rid of it as well. I rid of my own board very shortly after I originally made it. So, I was also thoroughly disappointed with my experiences and for years after I thought I'd never be able to communicate with lucid, kind and adjusted spirits. Years later however, I would discover automatic writing via my computer keyboard. This proved to be a more positive and constructive method for myself specifically.
