Meet Our Special Mascots |
|
|
|
Adopted by our trainer, these special ladies have graced our kennel and are a reminder of how precious every greyhound is to us. Let me share them with you...and their stories. |

"Dolly" |

Dolly raced at the Woodlands before her retirement. She was returned to the adoption kennel at 8 years old, after being picked up by animal control. She weighed 38 pounds and had been terribly neglected, tied in her adopter's back yard for three years. We welcomed her "home" again with open arms. |

Our trainer fell in love with Dolly immediately, and soon adopted her. She became the love of our lives. Dolly began coughing in the mornings, and although she had been tested when she came to the adoption kennel; she had heartworms. Not just heartworms, but a severe case of heartworms and she had probably been infected for nearly three years. Because of the severity, she required two rounds of treatment. The first round began in Nov. 2000. The danger in treating heartworms is that as they begin to die and absorbed by the body, a clot can form in the lungs, heart, or other extremities. We breathed a sigh of relief when the 10 day "danger" period was over. Round two began Dec 1st. By Christmas - everything would be behind her. A week before Christmas, a clot formed in her spine, causing her legs and hind quarters to become paralyzed. In spite of efforts by the vet, nothing could be done, and Jim helped our sweet, precious Dolly cross the Rainbow Bridge. |

Our Newest Mascot - Annie Rose is a 12 year old girl with the most beautiful overbite you'll ever see. We don't know much about Annie's backgound, except she lived in Oklahoma.
She found her way into Jim's heart, when she was being fostered by one of the volunteers at our adoption kennel. When visiting our kennel, she loves to follow us, as we feed the greyhounds (someone has to be in charge). We also discovered she likes to counter surf. We sure are more careful where we put the racers feed!
Welcome to the STL Racing Team - Annie Rose
