The "Chicago Jazzmen" have been around Auckland (New Zealand) since 1985 and the band's members have been descibed as "life's characters" which ,according to some, is just another euphemistic way of saying "bunch of old farts". The line-up of Barry Nielson on banjo, Andy Massie on Clarinet or Sax and John Keatley on Tuba had been together since 1996 with Bob Ward or Danny Allen on trombone, Don Bruce on trumpet and Tony Parker or Jimmy Gibb on drums whenever possible. Now, with Barry having moved to the wilderness that is Fielding, Colin Crook was asked to take the banjo seat.. When Colin said he wasn't a banjo player he was told "We know that, but you own one"
