| THE WILL PENNY STATUE TRIBUTE NIGHT Written By: 'Francis' Here is a review on the WILL PENNY STATUE TRIBUTE NIGHT for Charlton Heston. Mr. Heston's family was introduced one at a time. Although there may have been other family members present, the only members introduced were Fraser and Holly Heston, his son and daughter. There were also introductions of other NRA leaders, but I won't go into detail. The climax of the introduction was the entrance of Mr. and Mrs. Heston. They were greeted by a thunderous standing ovation, which lasted several minutes. Mr. Heston was moved to tears by our greeting. After the introduction, Charlton and Lydia, his wife, were seated on stage. There was a video presentation, narrated by Tom Selleck, which detailed Mr. Heston's public life. There was footage of his civil rights march, along with the numerous speeches Mr. Heston has given in support of the Second Amendment. Also included were excerpts from interviews with Mr. Heston. When the video presentation was over, Mr. Heston again received a standing ovation. He held Lydia's hand for almost the whole time they were seated. After the ovation, a talented young lady sang "America the Beautiful" in tribute to Mr. Heston. At this point, I think I got something in my eye. The night was so special because of Mr. Heston's announcement that he would be leaving the Presidency of the NRA due to his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease. Everyone knew that we were seeing one of the last public appearances of a legend. Mr. Heston was presented with the bronze statue of Will Penny. His eyes lit up when he saw the statue. He was very pleased with it. Mr. Heston left the stage with his family, again to thunderous applause. The thing I remember most about the night was that Mr. Heston had to wipe tears from his eyes numerous times. Charlton Heston is a "real person." He believes in what he says, and he deeply loves America. |
