| Named after an Avon perfume, Charisma Carpenter hated
her name while growing up. Her friends at school teased her by calling her
"Chrissy," which she also hated. Charisma spent her early years in Las Vegas
and moved around a few times when she was a teenager. Charisma Carpenter and
her family first moved to Rosarito, Mexico and later to San Diego where she
enrolled in a performing arts program at the Chula Vista High School.
Cheerleading was also something she was into in high school and she
continued to do it after she graduated. Did you know Charisma Carpenter was
a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers? In 1992, Charisma Carpenter moved
to LA where she could better her chances of an acting career. She was cast
in over 20 commercials, including ads for Secret Ultra Dry deodorant.
Charisma Carpenter was also heavily involved in the theatre and performed in
many productions. Her television debut came on an episode of Baywatch. The
role gained her a lot of attention and Charisma Carpenter soon found herself
with more opportunities. Charisma landed the role of Ashley in Malibu Shores
and, despite the program's brief run, TV Guide noticed her and said good
things about her performance. Next came Charisma Carpenter's audition for
the show most of us know her from - Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Originally she
went out for the lead role, (and Sarah Michelle Gellar auditioned for
Cordelia) but Joss Whedon pulled the ultimate switcheroo. Charisma
Carpenter's character was so popular that she became a regular in the second
season. As the success of the show continued, Charisma was offered a larger
role in the spin-off series Angel. Charisma Carpenter's career is lasting
longer than the perfume she was named after - and it's sure sweeter. |
