Colonial Forge Leo Club
Welcome to the Official Colonial Forge Leo Club Website! We are sponsored by the Stafford Lion's Club. Here you can find information on current projects, the email addresses of our officers, newsletters, and a calendar of important dates related to the Leo Club. The Leo Club meets every-other Wednesday in room 102 at 2:30 - 3:00 PM at Colonial Forge High School. The next meeting is on Wednesday, June 8, 2005. If we're not in that room, just look around. We usually crowd around the door before the meetings start.
If you would like to donate anything to the CFHS Leo Club, please send us an e-mail. We'll give you all of the details you need.
Current Projects
Pop-Tops: Pop-tops are the tab things on your aluminum soda cans, which help you open them. Be sure to collect them and give them to Mrs. Burt, who runs the Salad Line at school. You can also give them to Michelle Marietta. We will be giving them to the Ronald McDonald Foundation who gets five cents for each pop-top. The money will then be donated to families of cancer patients living in Ronald McDonald houses. The question was raised if the Ronald McDonald house was still collecting pop-tops. The website has a list of the participating Ronald McDonaldhouses that are. Of the participating houses in Virginia is the Ronald McDonaldhouse in Richmond and the Ronald McDonaldhouse in Roanoke. That website has the number that you can call for more details.
Hearing Aids and Glasses and Cell Phones: If you have any hearing aids or glasses or glasses cases lying around the house, unused, bring them in! Even the broken ones. We are collecting them so that we can send them in to be fixed and then distributed to people all around the world who are in need of a hearing aid or glasses. We are collecting working cell phones, as well. It does not matter if they're a little banged-up, as long as they are still functional. We really need glasses. Badly. Please, donate.
Fundraisers: As you all (should) know, two of our members, Alex and Nerissa, were killed in an auto accident on February 6, 2004. There has been a scholarship set up in their name, so that's going to be an ongoing project. Any ideas, please, bring them to Melissa or Michelle or up at the next meeting. Also, Nerissa's family, the Hackmans, are attempting to build a Youth Resource Center dedicated to their daughter. We're looking to help fund and volunteer the building of this center. Note: We had $2,500 dollars donated to us for the scholarship! WOO!
Habitat for Humanity: I was instructed to find the sign-up link for the work that needs to be done on the Habitat for Humanity house. Get ready for an adventure! The main page of the Fredericksburg chapter of Habitat for Humanity has a page about volunteering. That page prompts you to send an email message in order to volunteer. I wont post that email address here because there is probably something illegal in that... But by clicking here and scrolling down, you will see the link to click to send the email.
Freshmen Hunt 2004 - 2005: Who ever gets the most Freshmen to join get's a baked good from Melissa at the end of the year out of her special cook book. So find us some Freshmen!
Relay for Life 2005: Once again, we are doing Relay for Life this year. It will take place on May 21 - 22. It starts at 7 PM on May 21 and runs until 7 AM on May 22. It's all all night walk from the American Cancer Society. It will take place at Pratt park. See Mondak for the paper you need to participate. It's awesome and fun. A great time was had last year by one and all. I highly suggest doing it. And if you're freaked out because prom is at the same time, come to this instead of afterprom. It's worth it. :)
Upcoming Activities
June 8, 2005: Last meeting - for real this time.
