The Mousetrap has been running continuously in London's West End since 1952, making it "the longest running show, of any kind, in the world." This classic mystery starts with a group of strangers stranded in a boarding house during a snowstorm, one of whom may have just committed a murder in London. The suspects include the newly married couple who run the house, a spinster with a curious background, an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef, a retired army major, a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a snowdrift, and a former magistrate whose complaints make life miserable for everyone. Into their midst comes a policeman on skis, bent on tracking down the murderer. The cast includes roles for 3 women, with ages ranging from 25-60, and 5 men, also age 25-60. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Auditions will take place in the Edinger Community room of the Eastern Monroe Public Library on North Ninth Street in Stroudsburg. The Mousetrap will have 20 performances at the Shawnee Playhouse September 25-October 25, 2009, including 4 weekday matinees. Rehearsals will begin at the end of August. If you are unable to attend on the 12th, please call director Sue Butler at (570) 476-0631 to arrange an alternate appointment.
