Hail and fair winds.

I am Fionn Mac Niall, called Finr, and I am an 11th Century Irish Viking.
Starting about 795-800 AD, Norwegian Vikings began raiding and settling Scotland and Ireland. During the 9th century, they firmly rooted themselves into the Scottish/Irish scene. During this time, many of the Locals allied themselves with, and married, the Norwegians and became Vikings themselves. This is what the Modern Archeologist calls "Celto-Norse". I was born in 976, in Dublin, and grew up as a Viking in Ireland.

They like to call me Fionn the Newt. This is the story behind that name. It was Yule Revel 2001 at the Shire of Tempio, in Ansteorra. The main event of the festivities was the Marriage Feast of Wulfgar von Regensburg (der hansgraf) and his lady, Rowanna of Craigenmoor. During the meal, romours quietly spread that Rowanna was a witch. We ate and everyone was having a good ol' time, when after about 15 minutes of whispers, Baron Theodric Alfhaims gets into the act. He brought the discussion into the open and questioned everyone in the hall. After several answers that didn't satisfy him, he finally asked "What makes you think she is a witch?" Immediatly, and without even thinking, I jumped up and yelled out (all together now)"WELL, SHE TURNED ME INTO A NEWT!!!" Of course everyone there fell out of their chairs laughing, and I got stuck with a new name.

Between april 2003 and september 2004, i lived in the Shire of Cote du Ciel, in the Kingdom of Artemisia. I went to many events, made many friends, and highly recomend that if you travel out of kingdom, this is the one to visit. I was awarded my AoA here, and given the Golden Pillar of Artemisia, both by His Royal Majesty King John De Clare II. This took place at the Court of Crown Tournament, in october of 2003. My last event there was Harvest War 15, where I was head of waterbearing. This takes a crapload of work, but thanks to all the help I had, I didnt have to do squat. That really speaks of the character of Artemisian players.


In November of 2004, I was made a member of an SCA household that consists mostly of irish and english pirates. They tend to base their personaes on the typical High-Rennaisance privateers. I am the only viking and early period persona in the group.
