This web site is a compilation of information about Cattaraugus Creek and its fishery. The Cattaraugus has gained immense popularity in the past few years as a premier steelhead fishing destination on Lake Erie. While most of its returning steelhead are hatchery fish stocked by the state of New York, there has been documented production of naturally produced steelhead in a number of its tributaries (see wild salmonid studies). These two sources of steelhead along with strays from other states' stockings help maintain the quality of this fishery that fishermen have grown accustomed to. The links below will
take you to more information about Cattaraugus Creek and its fish.
You will find the information on this site to be very general in nature
due to overcrowding concerns by fishermen. You will also find that
most of the information on this site comes from the stand point of science
and biology rather than actual fishing information. There are several
fishing message boards that handle the fishing end of the Cattaraugus very
thoroughly so it would be wasteful for us to duplicate it. If you
have any questions or comments, please feel free to email us at the address
below.
*** Due to the amount of page downloading
being above geocities allowable limits, occasionally geocities has shut
down the site for limited amounts of time. To remedy this, some of
the pages on this site have been redistributed to a site on tripod.com.
All links should be up and running, but any problems will be fixed asap.
If you notice any problems, please feel free to contact us at our email
link to the left.***
New Additions
Conservation Note In order for
the NYSDEC to keep tabs on Western New York's tributary and lake salmonid
fisheries, they have an ongoing angler diary program that provides them
with important information on the success of their salmonid program.
They are always looking for new volunteers to keep diaries for them.
If you would like to participate in this program or get more information,
go to the Weekly
Fishing Reports page and use the contact at the end of the report.
