History

Snowbird was born in late 2004 out of need for a utility to search for text within files. The Find utility in Windows XP had an input named “A word or phrase in the file”, but I can't remember a single instance when it actually found anything.

That's when I decided to write myself a simple tool to look for a filename / text within a file inside a given folder - that was Snowbird 1.0. It worked just great for my needs.

Soon afterwards, I put it up on my webpage as a piece of freeware. Something most unexpected happened in the following week - Snowbird got a review from Lockergnome that drove hundreds of people to give it a try.

Snowbird has come a long way since then - upto the sixth version, it was only a search tool. The current (seventh) version is a complete rewrite, merging the previous Snowbird and Mini Explorer into a single powerful beast capable of full-fledged file management and search.
