JACOBS Family History

My Jacobs Family

My Jacobs family emigrated from Kruth, Alsace, France and settled in Meyersville, DeWitt County, Texas from the port of LeHavre, France to either the port of Indianola or Galveston.

The First Jacobs

The first Jacobs that has been identified is my great-great-great grandfather, Henri Jacobs, of Kruth, Alsace, France.

Descendants of Henri Jacobs

Henri Jacobs was born Kruth, Alsace, France on 13 May 1813.  He is the originator of the Jacobs family in DeWitt County Texas.  Henri emigrated to Texas in 1854 with the help of his brother-in-law, Peter Bluntzer.  According to Claude GeWiss' "From the Upper Thur Valley to the Banks of Coleto Creek", An Alsatian Adventure in Texas, Henri may have left Alsace without a passport and without the consent of the Alsatian government.  This was due to the price of passports and the fact that Peter Bluntzer had become a fugitive-of-sorts.

With the help of other researchers, I have been able to identify all of Henri and Agathe's children.  Their son and my great-great grandfather, Michael Jacobs, was born 28 Sep 1841 in Kruth, Alsace, France.  Michael married Anne Marie Bitterly, who also emigrated from Alsace with her family, and settled in DeWitt County, Texas.
