He was a sculptor and an architect who spent the majority of his life making the 28 panels of his best known piece, the doors of the baptistery in Florence.
He was the initial Renaissance architect. As a youth, mastered the principles of classical architecture in Rome. In Florence, he constructed the unfinished dome of the cathedral. He had his own, fresh style of Roman architecture.
He was the greatest Renaissance architect. His most famous work was St. Peter's Basilica.
Mannerist Architects
They developed the Jesuit style, in which classical components of Renaissance architecture were manipulated to achieve anti-classical effects.
