It is Khmer national holidays, Cambodian citizens both sex and all ages prepare Nom Kom, Nom Thmey, Nom Ansorm, Nom chak, Nom Cheal and delicious food with the dressing of Khmer delicate traditional cloths march along the roads toward Buddhist temples by their homes.

Bon Pachum Ben has begun from the Buddha's era and continuously performed. Lord Buddha admired it is great merit ceremony because we pray for our ancestors and they could receive our praying. Following Khmer belief, in this occasion, if our ancestors finding almost seven temples but they still unsee any relatives they will be so sad and make sorrowful reflecting to us.

Brielfy, cambodian Bon Pachum Ben(Cambodian Ancestors Ceremony) mean: 1. Praying for our death relatives. But following the Buddha teachings it could be praying for our alive relatives too. 2. To make our life happy, prosperious, healthy and acting good deed by offering Dana. 3. To harmonize our national unity and nurture our Cambodian invaluable culture as the world mesmeric motive.

                          CAMBODIAN NEW YEAR

The festival of Cambodian New Year starts on the 12th, 13th and 14 th of April according to the Gregorian calendar and lasts for three days.

People clean and decorate their house, as well as set up an alter to welcome the New Year New Angel(Tevada Chhnam Thmey) who is said to come down to earth at this time to take care and protect human beings. A statue of the Buddha is put on the alter, also flowers, candles, incense, a bowl of scented water, food and drink, and banana leaves shaped into different figures.

First day of the festival(April 11th) people visit their local monastery and offer food to the monks. A special sand mound is built in the ground of the monasteries on this day. The mound is decorated with five religious flags, one on top of the mound and four around the sides. Special games such as the Tug-of-War(Tean Preat), Angkunh and Boh Choong are played at the monasteries on each day of the festival.

Second day, people gather with their families to wish each other a Happy New Year and exchanged gifts. They might also visit the monasteries again to ask the monks to say a special praying for their ancestors.

Third day, the Buddha statues of their home and the monasteries are washed. It is said this ensures good rain during the coming year. Children wash the feet of their parents as sign of respect and apology on this day as well..
