The Society for Conservation Biology is an organization devoted to developing the scientific and technical means for the protection, maintenance, and restoration of life on this planet - its species, its ecological and evolutionary processes, and its particular and total environment. In the service of this goal, the SCB's objectives include: 1) promotion of research and the maintenance of the highest standards of quality and ethics in this activity; 2) the publication and dissemination of scientific, technical, and management information; 3) the encouragement of communication and collaboration between conservation biology and other disciplines; and 4) the education, at all levels, of the public, of biologists, and of managers, in the principles of conservation biology. The objectives of the Central Arizona Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology include supporting the goals of the SCB. The CACSCB also encourages an interdisciplinary approach to conservation and the development of valuable professional skills through volunteer opportunities. CACSCB desires to promote a local forum for awareness and involvement in important conservation issues. CACSCB is centered at Arizona State University, but in addition to being a student-run organization, it desires to be inclusive of the conservation professionals and lay public in the Valley of the Sun.
