The Brazos Valley Gunslingers is a local club that promotes the sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. Cowboy mounted shooting is one of the nation's fastest growing equestrian sports. Mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of blank ammunition. Courses of fire are set in a variety of patterns. The set up of the first five balloons will vary with each run and requires the horse and rider to stop, turn, change leads and accelerate rapidly.    Riders must holster and draw their second gun to engage the rest of the targets. The second five targets will usually be   assembled into a rundown or a strait course intended to be engaged at a full gallop. Scoring is based on elapsed time and a five second penalty for each target missed or barrel knocked over.
