My Bike...

Aloha and Welcome!  I have recently gotten back into riding, after being away from the hobby for about 25 years.  Let me tell you... for me, although I hadn't ridden for such a long time, as soon as I jumped on that seat and cranked that bike up, it all came back to me in no time, I guess it's the same as swimming or riding a regular bike.  Once you've learned, you never forget.

The bike is a 1982 Yamaha Virago XV920J (Shaft Drive).  It had 9,600 mile on it when I got it in February, 2005.  Since that time, I've added a windshield and a battery tender.

Motorcycle Safety Education Program

I've also completed the Hawaii Motorcycle Safety Education Program, sponsored in part by the University of Hawaii and Leeward Community College on Oahu.  The classes are taught on all islands, and you must fill out an application to enroll into the class.  If you want more information about the classes or to download the enrollment application, just click on the "Motorcycle Safety Education Program banner and you'll get to their website.

One piece of advice before taking the class, it would be beneficial to obtain your motorcycle learner's permit first, before enrolling.  That way it'll make the transition from permit to license much easier than getting your permit after you take the class.  The application to enroll into the class can also be obtained from the driver's licensing office on your island

It was a great learning experience, learning how to swerve properly, how to turn correctly and tilting the bike properly on curves.  Not to mention making new friends while in class.  One of the main points of the class was learning (and knowing), to ride within one's capabilities.

Don't take the class with a 'hot shot' attitude, because you'll only end up hurting yourself and others.  Have an open mind, be willing (and wanting) to learn, because you'll be surprised at what you don't know (or thought you knew).

Need parts for your ride?  Or are you looking for cool apparel to wear while riding?
