Scouting report (from STATS, Inc.)
2001 season: The Padres traded reliever Donne Wall to the Mets for little used Trammell after the 2000 campaign. Trammell had displayed very good power in the minors but never was given much of an opportunity to show it with the Tigers, Devil Rays or Mets. However, he was so confident in his ability to hit that he told GM Kevin Towers he would play for free if he would be promised 500 at-bats. His reasoning was that he’d hit well enough to make up any back salary in arbitration and, judging from the contract the Padres just gave him, he wasn’t far off. Trammell turned out to be one of the biggest steals of the 2001 season, providing some much-needed sock in the middle of the Padres’ batting order.
