Welcomes you to the beautiful
AUTONOMOUS REGION OF BOUGAINVILLE.
You have just landed at the doorstep to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARoB), Papua New Guinea.
Bougainville is a Natural Tropical Paradise located a few degrees south of the equator and is the ideal location
for an Adventure of a Lifetime.
Bougainville is surrounded by the bluest and cleanest of the South Pacific Ocean, undisturbed rich marine life
and the lush tropical rainforests of a variety of fauna and colourful flora. You will have a chance to see untouched
natural Lakes, scenic beaches, and go swimming or birdwatching on islands inhabited by birds only.
Furthermore, if you are a WW2 enthusiast or historian, the remains of World War 2 relics can be found all over
the island as Bougainville was a battlefield for the invading Japanese and the Allied Forces. Plane wrecks, ship
wrecks and remains of trucks and even live ammunition from the war can be found in most parts of the mainland
Bougainville.
It was on Bougainville that the Japanese Admiral Yamamoto's plane was intercepted and shot down by the Americans.
The plane's wreckage still lies in the jungles of Buin, in South Bougainville. BOUG ISLES TOURS has in the
past arranged tours for groups of Japanese war veterans or descendants of war veterans to visit Admiral Yamamoto's
crash site where the wreckage remains. Go to WAR RELICS for the photographs.
