When will hospitals begin making themselves healthy places to visit?

(Or, at least acknowledge publicly, like Beth Israel Hospital - Boston, that the problem is real and that BI, unlike many other hospitals, is beginning to face it head-on!)

Can a modern, post-denominational, committed, American Jew find meaningful ways to struggle with our Ten Commandments?

Michael Alan Ross, author of the newly published, The Ten Commandments Guidebook, offers many such ways. Mr. Ross, author of BostonWalks' The Jewish Friendship Trail Guidebook - 6 Self-guided Jewish History Walk Tours of Downtown Boston, now has written The Ten Commandments Guidebook as a spiritual invitation to the Ten Commandments. In The Ten Commandments Guidebook, Mr. Ross offers a personal and creative perspective of the Ten Commandments by means of his original poetry, prose, and song lyrics. His writings are drawn from a lifetime of Jewish American experiences. As an example, see below, Michael Alan Ross' original acrostic poem, Anti-Semite a creative modern definition of an Anti-Semite in light of the 6th Commandment, You shall not murder.

Allowing oil pricing to thwart Jewish self-defense,

Allowing education which teaches Jew hatred,

Allowing murderous bombers,

Believing accusations that Jews instigate violence,

Believing Jewish self-defense is offensive,

Believing lies about Jews and Israel,

Coddling people who fabricate and teach lies about Jews,

Denying the reality of terrorism against Jews,

Equating victimizer with victims,

Forgetting that the UN condemns Israel quicker than other nations,

Gesticulating for peace while denying Israel's right to enforce civil order,

Honoring those who defame and vilify Jews,

Ignoring the lessons of Holocaust history,

Judging defense and offense equally,

Killing Jews intentionally,

Lamenting past atrocities while failing to prevent present ones,

Mounting sympathy for those who condone murdering Jews,

Nurturing venom,

Obfuscating whom is fomenting Jew hatred,

Perpetuating myths about Jews,

Quashing context,

Refusing to acknowledge Israel's existence,

Selling arms to Israel haters,

Torching synagogues,

Undermining "Thou Shalt Not Murder,"

Valuing death more than life,

Waffling on what is murder,

eXcusing crimes against Jews,

Yawning about another murderous bombing in Israel,

denying Zionism's validity.

Midrashim and Piyyutim

Mr. Ross' poetry about the Ten Commandments, his prosaic warm memories of family life, and his lyrical voicing of social concerns can be called by the Hebrew words piyyutim and midrashim, poems and commentaries, which offer uplifting, spiritual and, sometimes, challenging interpretations.
In addition, Mr. Ross offers many suggestions for the reader to consider in struggling with the Ten Commandments, making this Guidebook a fine teaching tool, usable not only for its inspirational reading but also for its suggestions of good deeds.
The Ten Commandments Guidebook, ISBN 0970082525, by Michael Alan Ross is available for purchase online at http://www.gis.net/bostonwalks/TCorderform.html and for sale in selected bookstores such as Kolbo Fine Judaica and Israel Book Shop in Boston/Brookline, Massachusetts.
