Ripping off John Lennon
Portrait of the Wrong Cliche

Ripping off John Lennon

I don't need a reason for everything
I don't get excited over much
but at the same time
it doesn't take much to hold my interest
I could watch a squirrel
run across the top
of a barbwire fence
I could watch a fly clean itself
I notice the patterns of a ceiling,
thin painted black super glue
on a long treed road...

People tell me jokes and assume I don't get them
They make pop culture references and think
I don't get out much
It would never occur to them
that I don't care
It would never occur to them that some people
don't laugh at lame-ass bar jokes...

I used to watch Sheryl listen to scan
I watched the car dealers play keno while customers waited
I've watched a large flock of small birds bounce around in the sky
making the clouds look like bumpers in a pinball game...

Yeah,
yeah I get it
Dolly Parton, new shoes, neither has she,
I get it
But I was a little busy
watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll.

Protrait of the Wrong Cliché

At the back of a store
a young dad calls out
to his two year old
daughter
"Hey, cut it out
That's not a toy"
While she slams around
a tall stuffed animal
