First Session Activities Calendar.

"A Summer as a Junior Lifeguard"

The Bonelli Park Junior Lifeguard Program is sponsored by the County of Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. It is a program to introduce youths 9 to 17 years old to the field of open water lifesaving and water safety. It is taught by actual Los Angeles County Lifeguards who run the Swim Beach and Rescue-Boat Patrol at Puddingstone Lake, located at Bonelli Regional Park.

As a Junior Lifeguard, one learns CPR and First Aid skills, Swimming Techniques, Basic rescue Skills, Boating, Personal Water Craft Safety, and Sailing skills. .

The Junior Lifeguard learns competition skills such as paddleboard racing, beach flags, rescue races, and other swimming and running events. Each session culminates with a Junior lifeguard competition with the other two LA County Lakes: Santa Fe Dam and Castaic, which makes for an exciting day of cheering each other on and making new friends.

JUNE 23 TO JULY 17, 2008

9:00 AM TO 2:00 PM

SECOND SESSION:

JULY 21 TO AUG. 14, 2008

MONDAYS - THURSDAYS

9:00 AM TO 2:00 PM

AGE: BOYS AND GIRLS AGES 9 TO 17 YEARS OLD

REQUIREMENTS: A 100 YARD POOL SWIM, (CRAWL STROKE) IN LESS THAN THREE MINUTES AND TREAD WATER FOR THREE MINUTES.

Program Fee: $275.00 per participant (Includes all field trips plus Raging Waters Day!)

TRYOUTS: FOR BOTH FIRST AND SECOND SESSIONS WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 7, 2008 FROM 8:00AM UNTIL 11:00AM AND ON JUNE 14, 2008 FROM 8:00AM UNTIL 11:00AM. APPLICANTS NEED ONLY TO ATTEND ONE OF THESE DATES.

THE TRYOUTS WILL BE AT THE SAN DIMAS SWIM AND RACQUET BALL CLUB LOCATED AT 990 W. COVINA BLVD. IN SAN DIMAS (NEXT TO SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL).

ALL APPLICANTS MUST BRING A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN WITH THEM TO THE TRYOUTS. BRING A SWIM SUIT , TOWEL, CHANGE OF CLOTHES. A BIRTH CERTIFICATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT THE TIME OF THE TRYOUTS.
