Our Alaska Trip We actually started this trip on the 3rd day of June from Jacksonville, NC. The first part of the trip was getting things ready to go. First stop was Camping World in Myrtle Beach, SC. for some " must have items that we just can't live without". We "dry camped", no electric, water etc for the night..From there on we traveled to Lugoff, SC. where we spent a few days with Jimmy, Lynn, Scooter and Mikey Howington. We camped just down the road at a local camp ground and had a cook-out, good conservation and friendship. Upon leaving there we traveled to Asheville, NC with a short stop in Spartenburg, SC. During this stop I learned that my mother had passed away the previous Sunday..There wasn't enough time to get home for the viewing or memorial services so a few phone calls to family was made. We were out of our phone coverage for a few days so as to explain the delay in messages. In Asheville we visited Katies sister June and J.D. Haynes. June is terminally ill and JD isn't doing well himself. While there we took a side trip to Lake Keowee, SC. to visit Katies brother Gail and wife Jane, sister Carolyn and husband Bay. This was a day trip so back on the road to Jackson, Tn where we spent the weekend with Randy and Ervin.. along with their dogs Opie and Barney..A good time was had by all.. Back on the road. This time to Texarkana, TX. Spent the night in A camp ground and visited an old friend that I hadn't seen in about 17 years, Lonnie Morgan and his wife. From there we went to Livingston, TX where we became a "Texan" Howdy folks"..After a few days there we drove on to Conroe,TX. We stayed at Lake Conroe RV Park. The temp was 95deg with a heat index of 105. Get the heck out of Dodge.. The official start of the Alaska Trip. Sunday, 21 June Fathers day. Tired of the heat in Conroe so we headed up I-45 towards Dallas-Fortworth with a side trip to Burleston, TX to take a few photos for Grand daughter. Back on the road driving hard to get out of the heat..We stopped in \ Dumas, TX. after driving 647 miles that day. We dry camped in a Wal-Mart parking lot for the night. Monday 22 June Left Dumas, Tx and after a few miles we crossed into New Mexico. No pictures of this area, we just wanted to get out of the heat.. We traveled up the Santa Fe Trail, same place of the old cattle drives and the pictures start from there..We drove on into Gunnison, CO. and stayed a Blue Messa Ranch..Weather was Great, 32 at night and 65 in the day with humidity of 28%..We camped there for a week where we played games and met new people..The lady with Katie and I is named Liz. The following sunday we went to church. After 7 daye we moved down the road 3 miles to Elk Creek Camp Ground where we spent 3 days. We visited Crested Bute which is a very beautiful town up in the mountains where we had lunch and a good time. Our dogs, Gracie and Sassy had a time chasing Gophers.. 1 July Left Gunnison area and traveled up and over Monarch Pass elevation just over 11,000 feet high. We took the chair lift to the very top which is over 14,000 feet and 32 degrees with lots of wind and a 150 mile view. Breathtaking views. 1-7 July Loveland, CO. Stayed in Johnston RV Park. Very nice park with good neighbors,,A Fellow from PA and his girl friend "Cookie" were one of our neighbors..One evening we gahtered around the picnic table and downed a few cool ones, both Katie and I got tipsy with Katie needing the trash can at bed time..Got to see and old friend Bob who ouns a business in Loveleand, Co. We decided Aftre our trip to Gunnison that we needed a Jeep so we traded the Saturn in on a 2004 bright Yellow Jeep Wrangler. We both love it. 8 July Left Loveland, CO. and drove to Landon, WY. stayed at Ray Lake Campgroung. The lady who run the place reminded Katie of her mother.. The lady fixed us breakfast the following morning and took about an hour to fix, she was in no hurry and neither were we. we asked her about winter weather and she said it gets down to 50 to 70 below

Sorry we haven't written sooner but traveling like we are doing, one doesn't always have access to a phone line where we camp. We are in Livingston, MT. We will be leaving here in the morning and should be near the Canada border late afternoon on Monday. After we left your house we went to Asheville to see June and JD for a few days then on to Randy and Irving's for the weekend. From there the next stop was in Texarkana, AR where we visited a friend of mine over night. The next day we drove to Livingston, TX. where we joined the Escapees RV Club. From there we drove to Conroe, TX and spent a day and a half. The weather was so humid that we didn't want to stay longer. We left there on Fathers Day and drove to Dumas, TX, spent the night in Wal-Mart parking lot. The following day we drove to Gunnison, Co. This stop lasted 10 days; we really loved this area, 32 Degrees at night and 68 in daytime with 20% humidity. We Crossed the Rockies at Monarch Pass (11,000 + in elevation). From there we drove to Loveland, CO and spent a few days. From Loveland we drove to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. The views in Teton and Yellowstone were great. From Yellowstone we traveled to Livingston, MT. We are waiting for mail to catch up to us. Katie and I are having a great time and think of you all every day. Love Mom and Bob
